Morrocoy National Park

Morrocoy National Park, established in 1974, covers approximately 32,090 hectares along Venezuela's northwestern Caribbean coast in Falcon State. The park encompasses a magnificent system of cayos (small islands), mangrove forests, coral reefs, and coastal lagoons that together form one of the most beautiful marine environments in the Caribbean.

The park's star attractions are its cayos — small islands fringed with white sand beaches and surrounded by shallow, crystalline turquoise waters. Cayo Sombrero is perhaps the most famous, with its postcard-perfect combination of palm trees, white sand, and impossibly blue water. Other popular cayos include Playuela, Cayo Borracho, Cayo Sal, and Cayo Muerto, each offering a slightly different experience but all sharing the same pristine natural beauty.

The mainland gateway towns of Tucacas and Chichiriviche serve as launch points for boat trips to the cayos. These towns sit on the waterfront and offer direct access to the park's islands, with a fleet of lanchas (motorboats) operating daily excursions. Tucacas has seen significant infrastructure improvements in recent years, with new restaurants, hotels, and a growing real estate market catering to both Venezuelan and international buyers.
